A cyclist has been taken to hospital after car crash on a central Mackay street on Monday afternoon.

Police, fireys, and paramedics were on scene to assist the cyclist after the crash near Sydney Street Markets at about 1pm.

It is understood the crash occurred near the car parks in the middle lane between Gordon St and Alfred St.

Bystanders reported seeing a man on the ground near a silver vehicle who was “groaning” and appeared to be in a great deal of pain.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said one adult male patient was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition after being called to Sydney St at 1.30pm.

He was transported to Mackay Base hospital after 2.00pm and police cleared the scene shortly after.
