A Toowoomba man has had his first court appearance after he was charged with the murder of his wife, whose body was found after a house fire north of Toowoomba.
Toowoomba bricklayer Cameron Robert Hunt was arrested by investigators hundreds of kilometres away from his burnt home, hours after Louise Hunt’s body was found and a crime scene was declared at their Geham home.
He was taken to the Toowoomba Police Station watch-house for questioning and appeared before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning, April 16.
Acting duty lawyer, Legal Aid Queensland duty solicitor Phil Stainton told the court Mr Hunt’s appearance in court was not required.
Mr Stainton asked for a lengthy adjournment given the nature of the serious offences, which were two aggravated domestic violence charges of arson and murder.
Police prosecutor Chris Willson said police would appreciate a lengthy adjournment.
Magistrate Kyna Morice ordered the brief of evidence to be completed by July 2, and said the matter would next be before the court on July 16.
Mr Hunt was remanded in custody.
