BREAKING: House burns to the ground in Lakes Creek

A crime scene has been declared after human remains were found following a suspicious fire at a house in central Queensland.

12.30PM: POLICE have shared some more information surrounding the suspicious fire in Hill St off Lakes Creek Road in the early hours of this morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Luke Peachey appealed for public information this morning while fronting local media.

He said the site was now a crime scene and police were investigating the incident.

"We are waiting on advice on our scientific and fire investigators in regard to the causation of the fire and the circumstances around how that body was found," he said.

"(the body) was found around 6:30am this morning.

"The house has been completely destroyed so it's not easy to say where abouts in the house the body was found."

Det Peachey said it didn't appear there was anyone else in the house at the time, but they believed another resident lived at the property and was there at the time of the blaze.

He said any time a house fire occurs, police always treat them as suspicious until proven otherwise.

"Until we can determine how that body has come to be there, we will declare it a crime scene," Det Peachey said.

He said police would not commit to a timeline on investigations.

Police are appealing for information, specifically CCTV footage and dashcam footage from passers-by.

It is understood authorities have a seven-day crime scene warrant for the house.
