A family man who was allegedly bashed by a racist thug outside Melbourne’s Lynbrook Hotel on Saturday night has opened up about the horrific ordeal.

Lynn Balm, 54, was left with severe facial injuries which required overnight hospital care and stitches. His sister, Jacqueline Prakasham and her husband Keith Prakasham were also allegedly attacked and sustained minor injuries.

Mr Balm and his wife alleged the attacker told their family to “get out of this country, you don’t belong in this country” moments before the unprovoked ambush.

“They (allegedly) scuffed me on the ground and started punching me, kicking me on my ribs,” he said.

The alleged attacker also called the family “brown dogs” and “Indian trash”.

A 29-year-old man from Clyde North in Melbourne’s southeast came forward to police after Mr Balm’s niece Kerri Prakasham shared photos of the alleged attacker on social media.

In a statement to news.com.au, Victoria Police said they were not looking for anyone else at this stage, however the investigation remains ongoing.

“Police have a number of follow up inquiries to make and are yet to formally speak to all parties involved,” they said.

“This isn’t the first or the last time a racial attack will be made against an Indian person — or even a person of colour,” Ms Prakasham wrote.

“I just never in my life thought that it would hit this close to home.”

Continuing, the 23-year-old said her uncle – Mr Balm – suffered “the biggest blow” and was allegedly left in a bloodied and bruised state.

“This man (allegedly) attacked my uncle to the point that he was left bloodied on the carpark floor and rolled under the car,” she wrote.

“He was hospitalised and had to get stitches. He is pretty badly bruised and battered.”

Ms Prakasham also shared her disappointment at the lack of help provided by the Lynbrook Hotel and claimed the venue refused to provide CCTV footage. When contacted by news.com.au, a spokesperson from the venue also refused to provide comment.

“The Lynbrook Hotel has been no help to my family in investigating who was behind these attacks,” she wrote.

“My uncle was able to get this photo of the man but we have nothing more than this.”
