A Queensland woman pawed by police riding with her dog on a motorcycle has been fined despite having a harness to keep the dog secured to her.

The 35-year-old woman was spotted by the ‘paw patrol’ with her furry companion behind the handlebar on the Sunshine Coast.

Officers from Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol were conducting patrols on busy Alexandra Parade at Alexandra Headland around 2pm on May 17, when they intercepted a motorbike rider with a dog strapped to their chest.

“You know you can’t do that,’’ the officer is heard telling the woman on a video.

“So you can’t ride with the dog on the bike.

“I must say, it’s the first time I’ve seen it with the whole harnessing thing before,’’ the bemused officer tells the woman.

The woman tells police she didn’t know. “I bought this off Temu.’’

“Well unfortunately you cant be riding around with the dog in between your arms.

“I know your dog is probably trained but if he starts moving around or try to chase stuff, anything could happen.

“Then that’s obviously gonna cause you to crash.”

The woman was issued a $376 traffic infringement notice for ride with animal between arms.

Senior Sergeant Shane Panoho from Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol said drivers are required to have proper control of their vehicle and ensure they have a clear view of the road at all times.

“We know how attached some people are to their pets, but its best to apply a paws-off approach when it comes to our roads.

“The rider had purchased the harness online and did not think through the safety implications, particularly if the dog was to react to other road users, pedestrians or animals. “This could place the rider and her pooch in harm’s way or put other motorists at risk. “Although the dog seemed to be comfortable on the bike, we urge riders to practice safe and responsible behaviour on our roads.”
