A woman has faced court after she allegedly sent threatening bomb hoax messages to a Redland childcare and a Brisbane high school.

Angela Maree Welsh was charged with two counts of bomb hoax falsely state/inform bomb present and one count of breaching bail.

Police allege the threatening messages were sent to a Redland Bay childcare centre and a Runcorn high school between July 24 and July 25.

Police allege Welsh was not known or connected to the centre or school and investigations concluded the alleged threats were unsubstantiated.

Welsh appeared via video link before Cleveland Magistrate Deborah Vasta on Monday.

Magistrate Vasta said the defendant was on bail when she sent the alleged emails and had to deny her bail because her offending had now “escalated to a dangerous level”.

The court heard Welsh, who is undergoing treatment for leukaemia, had lived at the same address for two years with support workers attending every day from 8am to 4pm and was seeing a psychologist.

Magistrate Vasta said Runcorn State High School had to be evacuated along with 61 children and 14 staff from a Good Start Early Childhood Centre in Redland.

She said the evacuations caused massive disruption and she did not want to put anyone at risk and denied bail.

The matter will return to court in September.
