Pheobe Bishop's aunt reveals texts she received weeks before teenager disappeared

Shocking text messages sent by missing Queensland teenager Pheobe Bishop reveal how she hated her living situation, was desperate to get out and hoped to never come back.

The revelations were aired by Ms Bishop’s aunt, Carolea Johnson on The Project on Wednesday night, who said the messages were sent to her by Ms Bishop in what she thought was a cry for help.

Pheobe Bishop has not been seen since May 15.

But Ms Bishop’s mother, Kylie Johnson has slammed the interview, claiming her sister hasn’t spoken to her children in at least 13 years.

“She knows nothing about Pheobe and who she was as a person,” Kylie wrote on social media.

“Carolea you know nothing about me, my family or my children so don’t pretend that you do”

Ms Bishop, 17, was supposed to catch a flight from Bundaberg to Brisbane on May 15 but never made it to the airport.

She has now been missing for 14 days.

She had been living in a derelict house in Gin Gin with two older flatmates, Tanika Bromley and James Wood.

Text messages sent by Ms Bishop to her aunt said she was “up s**t creek, but s**t happens”.

When her aunty asked “what’s going on”, Pheobe replied with “The place I’m living”.

Pheobe replied with “I’m flying the f--k out of here to see my bf”.

She went on to add that “if it goes to plan I’m not coming back. I can’t do s--t any more” and “I need to get out of this hell hole”.

Pheobe ended the conversation with “I need to go but chat soon”.

It was the final message Ms Johnson would receive from her niece.

In the interview, which did not show her face, Ms Johnson said she questioned why her niece texted her and that she felt like she was “reaching out” for help.

“To start with, I’m like, why?” Ms Johnson told The Project.

“Why all of a sudden, something must have happened, why are you getting in contact now?

“When I am looking back, she was reaching out.

“It’s been so long that I’ve spoken to her and she doesn’t say why she actually wanted to talk.

“It was just strange.”

Ms Johnson said it sounded like Pheobe was determined to get to Western Australia and make a fresh start.

“When Pheobe has got something in her head, she will do it, she’s so determined,” she said.

“What I understand, that she wasn’t going to come back from WA.

“She needed to get away from everything, everyone down here, and just start fresh.”

Ms Johnson, who is estranged from Pheobe’s mum Kylie Johnson, believes her niece “won’t be found alive”.

“I’m certain she won’t be found alive,” she said.

“It’s sad to say, but I’m just being honest.

“Knowing that Pheobe has been another person in our family that’s been let down by the family, that’s been let down by the system, she’s just another child that’s fallen through the cracks.

“Kids need to have voices, it makes my blood boil.”

Kylie fired back at the interview on her Facebook page, saying her sister knew nothing about their family.

“I haven’t done a post today because I’ve spent the day with my family … I would like to seriously declare that Caz Johnson = Carolea Johnson is my sister who lives in Turkey Beach QLD,” she wrote.

“She hasn’t spoken to my children or myself for the last 13-14 years. She knows nothing about Pheobe and who she was as a person.

“I’m seriously so disappointed in the media, they are supposed to be providing the community and Australia correct information!

“Myself as a mother wasn’t asked to share my photos or asked to provide a statement by The Project.

“Carolea you know nothing about me, my family or my children so don’t pretend that you do.

“Police Media will be managing the families statements and releases. I want Pheobe home and so does her dad, step dad and OUR family. The people who actually love and respect Pheobe and all that she is.”

Ms Johnson took to social media again on Thursday to tell people how they could help.

“People have been asking how to help! Share this poster,” she said.

“Save it to your phone, talk to anyone and everyone in the rural community in Gin Gin and surroundings areas. “Someone has seen this car between May 15th-May 19th.

“The people we need to show this to are the ones with limited access to social media and or don’t have it at all..”
