The origins of a mysterious gang allegedly behind the brutal daylight stabbing of a young bikie associate has baffled police as they try to piece together who they are.
Police allege the men responsible for the stabbing death of 23-year-old Levi Johnson in a Mansfield street on Monday afternoon claim they were from the gang, 13 Kings.
Two of the four men allegedly involved have been arrested and charged with murder, but police are still looking for those still on the run.
13 Kings has been described by police as an alleged gang of “individuals with similar interests”, but “certainly not well-known or well-established”.
Little is known about the group, how many people are in it, or where it is based, but police said a clubhouse at Capalaba was raided on Wednesday morning.
The alleged gang has no social media presence and those allegedly linked to the stabbing haven’t shared any affiliation with the group online.
Bond University criminologist Terry Goldsworthy said he’d never heard of the specific group, but said there were about 5000 people across the nation with gang associations.
Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said police knew very little about 13 Kings.
“The credibility of those claims is still being investigated. And any claims that that club is linked to any other outlaw gang at this stage is supposition only,” Superintendent Massingham said.
Superintendent Massingham confirmed police were investigating whether the gang was a feeder group.
A lawyer for one of the men allegedly linked to the stabbing claims his client was not a member of 13 Kings.
”I don’t believe that any of the four men have claimed to be a member of that organisation. My client certainly doesn’t know what that assertion’s come from,” lawyer Andrew Owens said.
