A top private Brisbane hospital was plunged into a gas leak emergency on Friday that shut down operations.

UnitingCare Health’s Wesley Hospital at Auchenflower, in Brisbane’s inner-west, experienced a “code yellow” at 11.30am.

That code signals an internal emergency made when a hospital’s resources are under significant demand. It is also activated in response to an internal emergency or situation impacting the ability to deliver services as normal.

A UnitingCare spokesman said a code yellow was shortly lifted after independent investigations were conducted into the incident.

The spokesman said some staff located in the hospital’s endoscopy unit reported some symptoms, with an investigation under way.

They said there was no need for further care.

“The hospital has been independently cleared and is operating as usual.”
