Archie Gouldson funeral: Mourners remember Churchie student

Churchie students have lined the streets outside their school to perform a final war cry for their friend Archie Gouldson, who was today farewelled in a moving service in the school’s chapel.

POPULAR Brisbane school student Archie Gouldson has been farewelled at a funeral service.

Archie, 16, was killed in a vehicle rollover on a remote property near Roma on May 24.

Fifty people attended the ceremony at the chapel at Churchie on Saturday morning, as per COVID-19 guidelines.

But more than 1000 people watched the service online and hundreds more gathered in the street outside the chapel.

Archie’s father, Faran Gouldson, said his son “celebrated life pretty hard”.

Mr Gouldson said he was proud of the way Archie carried himself, the heart he had, and the beautiful young man he had become.

“Archie, you were the best son any mother and father could have,” Mr Gouldson said.

“You were engaging, you were intelligent, you were considerate and well mannered.

“Our hearts ache that you were stolen from us on the cusp of what was going to be an amazing life.”

Archie’s custom-made coffin featured a picture of him snowboarding.

His casket was decorated in sporting jerseys, a framed photo of Archie and his mates, and a bottle of his shampoo.

Mr Gouldson said those who knew Archie were “incredibly lucky and people who didn’t share Archie’s life are so incredibly unlucky”.

“He’s been taken from us - taken way too early,” Mr Gouldson said.

“We’re lucky because we experienced life with Archie and experienced all of the wonderful things he brought along with him.”

Archie’s classmates performed a war cry in the street in his honour as his casket was driven from the service.
