CHURCHIE student Archie Gouldson had the world at his feet when his life was tragically cut short in a car rollover on Sunday.

The 16-year-old died when the Toyota LandCruiser he was in hit a ditch and rolled on a farm at Mount Abundance, near Roma.

A 10-year-old boy was also killed in the tragedy.

The driver and another passenger, both aged 16, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Archie had been visiting a friend’s property at the time of the tragedy.

Archie was in Year 11 at Brisbane’s Anglican Church Grammar School and had impressed as a basketball player, even taking on several esteemed US high school teams during a tour of the country last year.

On the court, he was known for his defensive prowess and his work ethic as a student.

In a game against Texas' Celina High School last year, Archie was praised for his defence in a game they won by three points.

“Archie Gouldson was having a defensive blinder, hustling to every play and slowing down offensive possessions,” one article said of his performance.

In Brisbane, Archie received the Churchie Old Boys’ Association Effort Award in Year 8.

He also played as a hooker for the school’s rugby team around the same time.

Archie’s grandfather John Gouldson called his grandson “quietly mischievous and very gregarious”.

“Archie was a very keen sportsperson and a very good student,” Mr Gouldson said.

“I do not know that Archie had set his mind on a vocation, but he was open-minded and would have gone to university.

“He was quietly mischievous, very gregarious and had a great relationship with his friends,” he said.

Mr Gouldson said that Churchie held a memorial for Archie on Monday.

A Facebook group was started earlier this week encouraging senior boys at the school to shave their heads in solidarity, using a blade two or three.

The pictures and tributes to Archie are then shared around on social media to raise support.

“To the man that everyone loved, to the man that will never be forgotten, to the man who will always be part of the blue and grey family for life. Rest easy brother,” one student said.

The school did not wish to comment yesterday.

A funeral is expected to be held at the school at a later date.
