ALI Brigginshaw wants young people to know they can marry whoever they want as she celebrates her proposal with partner Kate Daly.
The women’s rugby league star popped the question to her now-fiancee after reading a heartfelt letter at her 30th birthday party at The Calile Hotel over the weekend.
“She was very surprised and was holding back tears,” Brigginshaw told The Courier-Mail. “I had written a letter just so I didn’t forget anything because that was the main part, I wanted to make sure I said everything I wanted to say.”
Daly didn’t realise that Brigginshaw was proposing until the moment she said “I hope you will never forget this moment” over the microphone in front of cheering family and friends.
The premiership-winning Brisbane Broncos captain said she knew very quickly Daly was the person she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.
“I think early on we bought a house together because we both knew that we were the one for each other,” she said.
“I knew as soon as we met, it had been a long time coming, and then when we finally spoke we both knew we were very attracted to each other and both liked the other side of each other.”
After partying all night after the proposal, the next day Brigginshaw planned a surprise engagement lunch for Daly’s kids to join in on the celebration.
Brigginshaw had even shown Addison and Alfie the ring, made by local custom-made jewellery designer DONMOSK, which they managed to keep a surprise from their mum.
As for now, the happy couple are about to enjoy a holiday together in the Whitsundays and will start talking about their wedding in New Year.
