A man’s vicious actions and threats towards his stepson have been labelled “absolutely reprehensible” by a judge.

In a fight with his then partner, the 34-year-old man, who cannot be named, picked up his stepson and pinched him so hard on the chest it left a significant bruise.

The man walked in the room and asked where his tea was. The woman said she was using powdered milk for the child and pointed out he had already had breakfast that day.

The man became furious and began throwing items into walls, creating a hole in one wall.

He left but soon after returned and said he was going and taking their biological child with him.

He pushed the woman to the ground and picked up his stepson. He then pinched him hard on the chest and threatened to hurt him further.

When the woman said she was going to call the police, he grabbed his passport and said he was going to leave the country.

When police interviewed the woman, the boy had a bruise the size of a 20c coin on his chest where the man had pinched him.

The man pleaded guilty in Pine Rivers Magistrates Court to breaching a domestic violence order and assault occasioning bodily harm.

The man’s lawyer Kerala Drew said her client and the woman had been talking about separating when the fight occurred. They have since split up.

Magistrate Trevor Morgan said the man’s behaviour had been appalling.

“Rather than you having family problems, your family was problems with you. Because your behaviour was appalling,” he said.

“Your treatment of an adult partner was appalling. What you did to her child was absolutely reprehensible.

“Unless you look inward for a while you’re going to go to jail and it’s going to be for a long time.”

He was fined $1000. A conviction was recorded.
