Queenslanders will be able to replace their old appliances with energy efficient ones from this week and pocket a rebate of up to $1000.

The Queensland Government’s Climate Smart Energy Savers appliance rebate comes into effect from Monday, part of a $60 million initiative to encourage households to become more energy efficient by purchasing appliances rated four stars or higher.

Appliances eligible for a rebate include washers, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, air conditioners as well as heat pump hot water systems and solar hot water systems.

Buyers will need to jump on the Queensland Government website and fill in an application form to verify their eligibility for the rebate. Only one rebate will be given to each household.

Retailer The Good Guys is expecting a rush for upgraded appliances, with rebates between $300 and $1000 available.

“The old appliance that customers want to replace just needs to have a minimum two-star rating,” The Good Guys home appliances general manager Greg Wilson said.

“The more energy efficient home appliances used, means the lower the utility bills will be, while also protecting the environment. Energy-efficient appliances are often more convenient to use than conventional models, which helps make our customers’ lives a lot easier. The added bonus is that most of them require less maintenance over their lifespan too, again helping customers save money in the long run.”

The Good Guys have also partnered with EcoActiv to assist customers with removing their old appliances. Customers can book a collection online to have their items collected from their home and these appliances will then be picked up and be recycled or donated.
