RACHAEL Leahcar's voice garnered the attention of a nation, but it is her charitable work that has earned the singer a Pride of Australia nomination.
Leahcar has been nominated in the Young Leader category in the annual awards for her work with The Royal Society for the Blind. The 19-year-old, who shot to fame in the first series of The Voice, said the nomination was truly humbling.
"Just the title sounds really cool," she said yesterday.
Leahcar, who is legally blind, is an ambassador for the RSB and also benefits from the work of the organisation.
"I try to think of a world without the RSB. I can't think of anyone I would be able to turn to to get the kind of support they give," she said.
Leahcar was nominated by fan Alice Truonghave, who described the singer as "a young inspirational leader".
RSB executive director Andrew Daly said: "Rachael's involvement is not only invaluable but inspiring."
