AFTER almost 50 years helping hospital patients, Norma Unger knows the power of being there for someone in need.
Since 1966 Ms Unger, 85, has dedicated her time voluntarily to patients at Ryde Hospital.

She would chat to them and feed them dinner if needed. Now she also organises for hair washes and cuts, as well as making cakes, jams and even knitting baby hats to sell in the foyer to raise funds.
Ms Unger, of Eastwood, is the hospital's longest serving Pink Lady and has been nominated for the Pride of Australia Award Care and Compassion Medal.

"I can't stay at home all the time ... It's very rewarding to help people," she said.
Nominations will be accepted until Tuesday, July 16.
