They are both in the baby bubble, bouncing from news desks to nappy change tables — and brothers Karl and Peter Stefanovic plan to do it all over again.
As the doting dads celebrate Father’s Day with their little ones — Karl with four-month-old daughter Harper and Peter with son Oscar — the TV morning hosts have revealed they want more.
Karl, who returned to the Today co-host chair this year and recently signed a new three-year contract with Channel 9, said the job “fits with the family now”.
“It’s perfect to come home and be with Harper and however many more kids we have,” the 46-year-old said of expanding his brood with wife Jasmine.
“You don’t take it for granted, the ability to have a child, and I think we’ll try to whenever the timing is right.”
First-time dad Peter said he and wife Sylvia Jeffreys would also add to their family “at some point”.
The Sky News First Edition co-anchor said the closeness he has experienced with his seven-month-old “little mate” has surprised him most about fatherhood.
“I’m loving it more than I thought I would actually,” Peter, 38, said.
“It’s always great to see his smiling face.”
Both Stefanovic brothers are planning a low-key Father’s Day with Karl looking forward to breakfast with Harper and his three older children — Jackson, 21, Ava, 15, and River 13 — from his first marriage to Cassandra Thorburn.
“With a bit of luck we’ll have all my kids around plus little Harper. The kids adore her so it’s a nice point in our lives to be able to celebrate being a dad,” he said.
Karl said watching his older kids with her had been “wonderful and gratifying”.
“It’s been a huge couple of years and in a way she’s kind of been binding,” he said.
“The kids are still kids and they’re like ‘can you stop her crying’ because they want to sleep until 11 on the weekends and all that, but largely there’s just no issues; they’ve been unreal.”
Cradling their offspring for today’s Father’s Day photo shoot, Karl and Peter repeatedly kiss them on the head.
“I’ve never felt so much stress,” Karl joked as he posed with Harper.
TV presenter Ms Jeffreys teared up when she was asked to describe Peter as a father.
“He’s so devoted,” the journalist said.
“He’s just relishing every moment with him.”
But the brothers are acutely aware 2020 has been tough for many Australians affected by the Black Summer bushfires, drought, floods and COVID-19.
They have thrown their support behind News Corp’s Thanks A Million campaign, recognising the hidden heroes working tirelessly for their communities.
“We know how difficult it has been for this country and especially in certain pockets of this country, it’s been the most difficult year ever,” Karl said.
“For all those people who have been on the frontline, they deserve all the recognition they can get. We can’t give them enough.”
