Those who support the Palestinian cause sure do have a strange way of attracting people to it.
One year ago Monday, hundreds of Hamas terrorists broke through security fences separating the Gaza Strip from Israel to take part in an organised day-long rape and murder spree.
When it was all over, 1200 people were dead, another 200 were kidnapped by Hamas, and the day would go down in history as the worst piece of anti-Semitic violence since the Holocaust.
So, what does the Palestine Action Group propose doing to mark the day?
They want to hold a vigil on the steps of Town Hall to mark “12 months of genocide and terrorism inflicted by the terrorist state of Israel.”
You read that right: On the anniversary of an attack by Hamas terrorists designed to inflict as much cruelty upon innocent Israelis as possible, pro-Palestine activists are taking the line that, well, really it’s all Israel’s fault.
Talk about gaslighting.
There’s more.
This Monday “vigil” will take place just a day after the Palestine lobby’s regular anti-Israel marches, which take place every Sunday at great expense to the cops (but that’s fine, peaceful demonstrations are a feature of life in free society).
The fact they are pushing a second event within 24 hours of their regular Sunday demonstration just underlines that this is not about peace, this is about rubbing salt in the wounds of Israeli victims the Jewish community here in Sydney.
More to the point, given heightened tensions, and the way police lost control of the pro-Palestinian march on October 9 last year – which, let’s not forget, took place before Israel had fired a shot in retaliation – there is every chance for a repeat performance of that disgrace.
Marching against Israel on Sunday is fine, gathering on the anniversary of a deadly terrorist attack is horrific.
