Kerry Parnell: Gisele Bündchen unrecognisable in cover girl breakover

Supermodel Gisele Bündchen’s breakover on the cover of Vogue Italia has certainly turned heads, but Kerry Parnell prefers the recently divorced style queen’s regular look.

It’s not your typical breakover, that’s for sure.

Gisele Bündchen has debuted her first magazine cover since her divorce from American football player husband Tom Brady.

And the 42-year-old supermodel certainly went for a new look.

Posing on the March cover of Italian Vogue — a magazine renowned for its cutting-edge styling — Bündchen was totally unrecognisable, in slicked-back red wig, super-thin drawn-on eyebrows and scarlet Valentino dress.

Inside, she posed in a series of wigs for more directional looks, with outfits including a pants and trench coat combo (breezy), and a giant taffeta bow-coat with stockings (challenging to sit down).

Calling it a “real Vogue Makeover”, the magazine describes her as: “Ready for a new page, maybe a new life. And she starts it like this: in red … the colour of passion, of love.”

It’s less of a new page and more a new library, to be honest.

I’m not sure Gisele would get the kind of love she’s probably looking for if she debuted this in real life, but then, what do I know.

When she’s not being styled like a Disney villain — it’s very Madame Medusa from The Rescuers (Google it) — Gisele is a living style queen.

The model — who jumped to the big-time after walking the Alexander McQueen runway in 1998, topless (traumatising the 18-year-old, she later revealed), retired from the catwalk in 2015.

She is credited as halting the dominance of the horrible “heroin chic” trend of the time and was the highest-paid model in the world for 15 years. Claudia Schiffer dubbed her “the last supermodel.”

Incredibly beautiful, she never changes.

Earlier this week, Gisele partied at the Rio Carnival in a replica outfit of one she wore to the same event in 2004. Sporting white low-rise jeans and a crop top, the mother-of-two looked absolutely amazing.

“It was so special to return to carnival and honour this beautiful celebration of our Brazilian culture,” she posted on Instagram, to her 20.7 million followers.

While everything in the noughties is back in fashion, it doesn’t usually include the people. There are not many of us who can carry off the same outfits 20 years later and look as good today as we did then. But the mega-model simply never went out of style.

Still, nothing beats a dramatic breakover — the new hairstyle and look people go for following a split, even a dud one.

Katy Perry hacked off her hair into a pixie cut on a break from Orlando Bloom, then got back with the elf himself.

Adele transformed herself into a completely different person when she split from husband Simon Konecki; Katie Holmes had a New York style-over when she left Tom Cruise, and Kim Kardashian seems to be on a carousel of breakover makeovers post-Kanye.

Finally, if reports are to be believed and Leonardo DiCaprio is ready to sink his reputation for never having a girlfriend over 25, perhaps the Titanic actor could fire up WhatsApp and message his old flame.

After all, he and Gisele were the hottest couple of the noughties and this Medusa-Gisele could be just the one to rescue him.
