Wang was conveyed to Wollongong Hospital last night for mental health assessment before she was transferred back to Wollongong Police Station for questioning early this morning.

Police today charged Wang with an outstanding warrant for murder and take and drive conveyance, for allegedly stealing Ms Zhou’s vehicle.

In court, the 29-year-old’s private lawyer Kevin Zhu said given her “current condition” an application for bail would not be entered.

“I had a short meeting with my client this morning and she was in a very bad state both physically and mentally,” he said.

“She was terrified and distressed. She has not slept in three days.”

She appeared calm during her appearance and only spoke when acknowledging that she understood the court proceedings via audiovisual link.

Magistrate Mark Douglass formally refused her bail and the case was adjourned for 10 weeks.

Wang was also charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner.

Emergency services were called to Rose Valley Way, Zetland about 8.45pm on Monday, after Ms Zhou’s body was found at the rear of the building.

Police will allege Wang left the apartment in Ms Zhou’s car following her death.

She next will appear before Central Local Court on August 28.

Ms Zhou’s badly injured body was found on a footpath beside a buckled and broken steal fence below the building’s balconies. She died at the scene.

Police released an image of Wang to the media at 1.30pm yesterday urging her to “hand herself in”.

Almost two hours later a man called James phoned 2GB’s Ben Fordham show, saying he had seen Wang in the picturesque Sea Cliff Bridge area near Wollongong.

Police confirmed it was the public appeal which led them to Ms Wang.

“Following assistance from the public, around 3.30pm today officers located a white Mercedes and a woman at Sea Cliff Bridge near Wollongong,” a police spokeswoman said.

“The vehicle has been secured for forensic examination.”
