THE suppressed identity of William Tyrrell’s biological mother has been revealed after the Supreme Court found the boy was likely to be dead.

Mother Karlie Tyrrell has been unable to talk publicly about the apparent abduction of her child for years because of child protection laws that prohibit identifying a child in foster care.

While unable to speak publicly about the disappearance of William in September 2014, Ms Tyrrell flooded Facebook with a series of grieving posts and photos throughout the years.

In one post, the mother uploaded a picture of herself pregnant with the young boy while the agonising search was still taking place.

William would have turned six years old in June this year.

Hoping desperately that he would be found, Ms Tyrrell nevertheless was unable to go public with appeals to find her missing child.

There’s no suggestion that either William’s biological or foster families were involved in his disappearance or have any knowledge of his whereabouts.

Police have vowed to continue looking for William even though a court has ruled there was a “tragic probability that he is dead”.

Police have vowed to continue looking for William even though a court has ruled there was a “tragic probability that he is dead”.

A police spokesman said Homicide Squad’s Strike Force Rosann still had “numerous lines of inquiry” to follow before abandoning the search for William, who went missing from his foster grandmother’s home in Kendall, on the NSW mid-north coast.

“The investigation into the disappearance of William Tyrrell is very much ongoing,” the spokesman said.

“It is important to note that at the time of his disappearance, William was living in a loving home and was well cared for — there is no indication his family status played any part in his disappearance.

“We are reminding the community that a young child is still missing and our focus will always be on bringing William home.”

A NSW Supreme Court judge this week permitted the publication of the fact that William was in foster care at the time of his disappearance.

William could be publicly identified as a foster child after Justice Paul Brereton ruled that it was in “the public interest” to do so, following an appeal from Allanna Smith — an advocate for missing children.

Ms Smith runs a Facebook group, Walking Warriors 4 Missing Children, and argued it was in the public interest to identify William as a ward of the state.

Justice Brereton found that there was “substantial public interest” in connection with scrutiny of “the welfare of children in out-of-home-care” to ensure “accountability”.

“There was a substantial public interest in accountability and scrutiny of the out-of-home care system and the relevant public officials and agencies, as well as in accurate reporting of the circumstances of (William’s) disappearance,” Justice Brereton said.

It can also be revealed that earlier this year, a Supreme Court judge said “tragically” the probability was that William was “no longer alive” as the investigation was being conducted as a homicide.
