The UK media has cried foul over The Daily Telegraph’s exclusive photos from the England Lionesses’ training session ahead of the World Cup semi-final.
The Tele put a chopper in the sky to spy on the Lionesses’ “private” training session at Central Coast Stadium in Gosford.
UK newspapers The Sun and The Daily Express shared the news, labelling the Aussies as “cheats.”
“The cheating Aussies were up to their old tricks when a helicopter was caught spying on England,” The Sun wrote.
“Manager Sarina Weigman was running her Lionesses through their final training session before today’s big match when it was spotted.”
“The England-Australia rivalry will now be revived just weeks after the end of the Ashes,” The Daily Express added.
US Sporting giants ESPN were among the international publications that shared the news.
Australian news sites The Daily Mail, Yahoo Sports and The Guardian also spoke of the spy gating, drawing comments from several exasperated viewers.
“Just grow up,” user No. 147, based out of London said.
“Little things tend to occupy convicts minds!,” another user out of the United Kingdom said.
“Australians seem to love being cheats in sport. They have no moral boundaries and don’t respect FairPlay. To them all that matters is winning by hook or by crook,” user theydonorient commented.
The Daily Telegraph’s move will only add more spice to the Matildas’ blockbuster clash against the Lionesses’ on Wednesday night.
It comes after Australia triumphed in a heart-stopping penalty shootout against France last Saturday.
Kick-off for the mouth-watering clash is at 8pm (AEST).
