Two men arrested after alleged Mercedes test drive theft

A luxury Mercedes was allegedly stolen when two men answered an ad for a private sale, took the vehicle for a test drive and didn’t return — leading to a dramatic police chase and arrest.

The Mercedes E55 was advertised for private sale at a home in Glenorie in The Hills district.

Police said two men turned up at the house in a Toyota Corolla about 11.30am today before one of the men took the Mercedes for a test drive.

He allegedly took off in the vehicle while the other man followed in the Corolla and didn’t return.

Police were called and POLAIR joined in the search for the car.

It was spotted heading towards Merrylands when police on the ground managed to stop the Corolla while the Mercedes continued on.

Shortly after, the Mercedes stopped in Paton St, Merrylands West and police officers intervened.

The 32-year-old driver from Merrylands and the 30-year-old man in the Toyota have been taken to Granville Police Station.
