Two dead, another injured after car, motorbike crash in Greenacre

Police believe both a motorcycle and car driver involved in a double-fatal accident were driving illegally — and a top cop also unleashed on the behaviour of fellow motorcycles riders who didn’t stop after the crash.

Two dead in horror Sydney crash

Two people travelling on a motorcycle have died and a third is injured after a car and motorcycle crashed in Western Sydney.

About 7.55pm on Tuesday emergency services raced to the intersection of the Hume Hwy near Worth St in Greenacre to reports of a serious crash between a car and a motorcycle.

The rider – a 26-year-old man — and pillion passenger of the motorcycle – a 24-year-old woman — were treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

A third person, the 25-year-old driver of the Toyota Corolla, was treated by multiple ambulance crews for serious injuries before being raced to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

It’s believed the motorcycle was part of a convoy of at least a dozen riders.

Almost a dozen ambulance crews responded to the scene of the crash, which left a black hatchback flipped onto its roof and debris littered across the road.

On Wednesday, NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden said that although the investigation is still continuing, police believed drivers involved in the crash were breaching road rules and “should not have been on the road.”

The driver of the motorcycle was a provisional rider and was using a motorcycle outside the class which he was licenced for, and the driver of the car was suspended from driving.

“Here we have a situation where both the rider and the driver should not have been in that situation, and this reflects the ongoing challenge that NSW Police have,” Mr McFadden said.

“In the last 12 days at the same time we’ve lost these 16 lives, 950 drivers have been identified, either being unlicensed or were disqualified and should just not have been on the road.”

Police also revealed the motorcyclist and his pillion passenger were a part of a convoy of approximately 40 riders and only “two or three” riders in the group stopped after the collision.

“From my understanding of the assessment of the footage I’ve seen, an estimate of about 40 riders in the group, maybe two or three stopped,” he said.

“Which is a sad indictment on somebody that is part of a gathering or group to be riding enthusiasts regardless of what they’re engaged in.

“But that lack of the human factor on the other members of the group is reprehensible.”

Police believe that the speed the motorcycle was travelling at was a “significant contributing factor” to the crash.

“The information we’ve got at this stage of the investigation is that speed on behalf of the motorcycle rider is a significant contributing factor to the crash and the driver of the sedan turned across the path of the motorcycle,” he said.

“So both factors are subject of the crash investigation and our Strike Force Puma will be looking at the conduct of the wider riding group.”

Strike Force Puma will also be investigating if the convoy has been involved in any antisocial driving behaviour.

Mr McFadden confirmed the 25-year-old driver of the Toyota Corolla is now in a serious but stable condition.

The crash is the second double-fatal in western Sydney this week, after a father and daughter were killed when their rideshare vehicle allegedly turned into oncoming traffic and was struck by a ute in Milperra.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or with dashcam footage of the Greenacre crash has been asked to contact Crimestoppers.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
