TWEED and Gold Coast artists have entered a record number of works in the Border Art Prize which launches on Friday.
Tweed River Art Gallery has received more than 500 entries, all competing to win the $3000 first prize.
The competition accepts all forms of art and attracts everything from painting to glass work, and CEO of Museums and Galleries NSW Michael Rolfe will select this year's winners.
Tweed Art Gallery director Susi Muddiman said she was looking forward to the exhibition and displaying the work of local artists.
"It's about the sheer joy of seeing artists really happy to see their art displayed," she said.
Ms Muddiman also says the competition is growing and this year was bigger then ever, making it difficult to choose displays.
"It's bigger than Ben-Hur. We've spent the last three days selecting artworks."
Artists from the region will demonstrate artistic techniques throughout the exhibition, which is expected to attract a large turnout.
The Border Art Prize is a joint effort of the Tweed and Gold Coast art galleries and will attract both popular and emerging artists.
