TYALGUM Community Carols by Candlelight will celebrate a traditional bush christmas this December with free entertainment for everyone.

On December 9 Tyalgum Public School will transform into a community platform for christmas cheer with carols to sing along to and a special visit from Santa himself.

The bearded man in red will be taking gift orders, chatting to visitors and conducting a matter-of-fact interview with Mr Scanlon about the trials and tribulations of being a Christmas icon.

Music for the occasion will be provided by Barnaby and Durand and local choirs keen to get the crowd smiling and singing along.

The forever popular lolly shower will start off the nights festivities at 6pm, with entertainment ending around 8.30pm.

Local poet and artist Dennis Scanlon expressed his excitement for the event, which was growing annually.

"We had close to two hundred here last year, it should be a good turnout," he said.

"It's a lovely event, with the backdrop of our clean little village."

Hungry carollers will be pleased to know that Tyalgum Community Association will provide food and drink for modest prices.

Adult attendees will also receive entry in a free competition to win fifty dollars, which will be drawn on the night.

My Daily News visited the friendly village of Tyalgum yesterday and found that the spirit of a bush christmas was alive and well in the lead up to the event.

Proceeds from the carols will go to local charities, bringing a merry christmas to those most in need in the community.

Undercover options will be available and the show will go on whether or not it rains on the day.
