Tweed residents will next month be the first to take an exclusive sneak-peek at the new $723.3 million hospital at Cudgen ahead of its May 14 opening.
A community open day on March 16 was announced by NSW Health Minister Ryan Park, who says visitors will have the chance to walk through some of the hospital’s key areas – including the emergency department and maternity, oncology and outpatient wards.
With the bulk of construction now complete on the hospital, finishing touches including furniture, fixtures and equipment are now being installed.
Mr Park said the open day was a prime chance for people to “familiarise themselves with the new hospital before it opens to patients”.
“This much needed redevelopment is providing a massive healthcare boost to Northern NSW and I’m excited to see its long-term impact on the community,” he said.
Legislative Council Member Emily Suvaal said: “These infrastructural upgrades increase access to healthcare for patients and are a key part of providing the high quality, specialised treatment Northern NSW deserves.
“The team is so excited to be able to showcase this state-of-the-art health facility to their community and give people the chance to see some of the areas they may not usually get to see,” she said.
The Tweed Valley Hospital Community Open Day will be held on Saturday, March 16 from 10am to 2pm.
The event is free and geared towards families with kids’ activities and refreshments available on the day.
Free onsite parking will be available in the multi-level car park.
