FORMER Gold Coast Titan and rugby league international Anthony Laffranchi is making a return to his hometown of Murwillumbah to co-host a breakfast show on Radio 97-103.5FM Northern Rivers.

Laffranchi will team up with breakfast host Scott Mayman – who recently returned to the station after departing in 1992 – for a segment called “Laffranchi’s Locker-Room” every Thursday morning.

Mayman, who has worked with Laffranchi on radio before, said when the regular co-host left, Laffranchi was the logical replacement.

“He’s a local boy, he’s very laidback, easy to get along with and he sounds great on the radio. It was an easy replacement,” he said.

“I already had a very good rapport with him and we already knew how to bounce off each other, so management was very happy and we just knew he was the right person for the job.

“He’s very radio-friendly, witty and clever and, best thing is, he knows his stuff.”

Laffranchi, who played 204 games with the Titans and Wests Tigers in an NRl career spanning more than 12 seasons, said he was excited to be back home for the show, to provide listeners with rare insights into the world of rugby league.

“It’s great to be back on radio and on the air in my hometown,” he said.

“I want to give listeners an insight into what happens behind the scenes. Something they won’t read in the paper or see in the news.”
