A car caught fire and the blaze threatened to spread to a home after a crash north of Murwillumbah in the Tweed Shire this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to a single-car crash on Dulguigan Rd about 3.30pm.
The car struck a tree and burst into flames, a Rural Fire Service (RFS) spokesperson said.
The driver managed to escape the wreck before the fire told hold and started to spread toward a nearby home.
An RFS crew was on scene within minutes and managed to intervene before the blaze could reach the property.
NSW Police confirmed the driver was the sole occupant of the car and was not harmed in the crash or subsequent fire.
The car was towed and RFS cleaned the scene.
The road was closed for about an hour, but both lanes have reopened.
