Police charge woman after man found with critical stab wound at Tweed Heads South

A 69-year-old woman has been charged after an horrific alleged stabbing in the Tweed which has left a man fighting for his life. Here’s the latest and pictures from the scene.

A man has been fighting for his life after he was found with stab wounds to his neck in the Tweed Shire on Tuesday.

Kristine Mary Morgan, 69, faced Tweed Heads Local Court on Wednesday after being charged with wound person intend to cause grievous bodily harm.

The Tweed Heads woman did not apply for bail, which has been refused and no pleas have been entered.

Emergency services including Tweed/Byron Police were called to Kirkwood Rd, near the Pacific Motorway (M1) at Tweed Heads South about 7.25am on Tuesday, following reports a man had been injured.

Police officers soon found a 55-year-old man suffering from the critical wound to his neck.

The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and flown by helicopter to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

Police arrested Morgan at the location and she was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station.

A crime scene was set up by police and forensically examined.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s injuries is ongoing.

Police were seen patrolling around and examining the area blocked off by police crime scene tape on Tuesday.

Officers watching over the scene were tight lipped and refused to reveal more information about investigations.

People attending Tweed Heads Lawn and General Cemetery on Kirkwood Rd have been driving past the crime scene and appeared surprised to see the commotion involving police and journalists.

The case has been adjourned to November 6.

Police have urged anyone with information in relation to the incident to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
