GIN drinkers have been tickled pink with Husk's famed Ink Gin but now the Tumbulgum distiller is hoping to have them seeing red over its latest release.

To coincide with the fourth anniversary of Ink Gin, Husk has released an other vibrant coloured gin which is bound to win over tastebuds around the world.

The new Ink Sloe & Berry Gin is officially released at the newly opened distillery on the 24th July.

Sloe Gin is a rich red liqueur traditionally made by macerating gin with sloe berries (fleshed fruit that resembles a small plum) from the blackthorn bush.

Created in England in the 17th century thanks to an oversupply of the blackthorn bush which was used to fence agricultural land, sloe gin is made from berries, giving it the vibrant red colour.

The new Ink Sloe & Berry Gin is Husk Distillers take on the classic English recipe with an Australian bush flavour twist using exotic and native fruits.

Head Distiller Quentin Brival said the new product starts with a simple, traditional recipe which is distilled with juniper berry, coriander seeds, angelica root and liquorice.

"We then infuse the gin with sloes, plums and berries - the result is a rich liqueur style gin, smooth, full of botanicals but not as strong as regular gin," he said.

In keeping with the unique colour which Husk delivers in its Ink Gin, the Ink Sloe & Berry Gin draws on the rosella flower which not only adds to the appearance but also adds a crisp, tart berry flavour.

The Husk distillery at Tumbulgum will be turning red this week from Wednesday (July 24) to Sunday to celebrate the release of the Ink Sloe & Berry Gin with a pop up gin garden on the lawn at Husk Farm.

The Ink Sloe & Berry Gin is a small batch product and bottles of batch 1 are limited, so gin enthusiasts will want to get in quick.

Batch one of Ink Sloe & Berry Gin will be available online at www.inkgin.com and from selected bottleshops.

Footnote: Naturally I had to taste test this drop and it is a very smooth rich liqueur style gin - sweet at first but with just a hint of bitterness to balance it out.

Don't dare spoil this with a mixer, just a block to two of ice, sit back relax and let the worries of the world fade away.
