A Tweed Heads West apartment complex damaged in a fierce blaze that took more than 20 firefighters to extinguish could be repaired for new tenants.
The proposed $760,300 project would result in three fire damaged units on Honeysuckle St being “reconstructed” and “reinstated”, according to a development application lodged with Tweed Shire Council.
The complex on a “quiet residential backstreet” includes seven units just off the Pacific Hwy.
A small army of emergency services workers were called to the Tweed fire on August 26 last year.
Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters were confronted a “large plume of smoke” and flames raging from the second storey of the building.
Occupants evacuated and firefighters battled the fire for about 40 minutes, assisted by an aerial pumper from Queensland.
The fire affected units are set to be stripped and refreshed with new ceilings, flooring and walls.
The proposal pitches the redevelopment as “like for like” with the original approval to build the units and is not due to involve excavation work.
Submissions on the project before the council can be made online.
