A private island in the Tweed has hit the market in what the realtor describes as a “once in a lifetime” opportunity.
Tweed River Island, located off Chinderah Bay Road, offers 14 acres of land within the Tweed River Inlet.
The island is tipped to sell for up to $3.3 million.
Real estate agent Michael Zhong said the current owners had planned on building a house on the island, however had decided to build elsewhere and put the island on the market after owning it for 11 years.
Mr Zhong said so far interest had come from around Northern New South Wales and Queensland, but suspected lockdowns and travel restrictions had an impact.
“Because of the lockdown people can only see the pictures,” Mr Zhong said.
He said the island was zoned in RU2 which meant it was not for developers and could not be subdivided, however a house was allowed to be built there.
“The island is quite good because its really convenient and private,” Mr Zhong said.
“You’re close to shopping centres and the airport and close to the ocean.
“You have a bridge so you don’t need to get a boat to the island.”
He said despite the lockdown and the listing only being up for two weeks he was surprised by the number of inquiries already received.
