The Imperial Hotel up for sale

THE Imperial Hotel is for sale. Hotel brokers Power Jeffrey and Co have advertised the hotel for sale by tender, with tenders closing on December 2.

MURWILLUMBAH'S landmark pink pub, The Imperial Hotel, is for sale.

Brisbane-based hotel brokers Power Jeffrey and Co, acting under instructions from receivers appointed to the pub's owners the Power Family Group, have advertised the iconic hotel for sale by tender, with tenders closing on December 2.

The two-storey hotel, which looks down Brisbane Street from its prime location opposite the Murwillumbah Post Office in Murwillumbah's main street, is described as having 22 hotel accommodation rooms, a public bar, bistro and outside dining, plus conference room and bottle shop.

It has 22 gaming machines.

In January this year it was revealed the hotel's owner Colin William Power was struggling financially and had been told by his accountant to sell the property.

Power, of Tallebudgera, operated two hotels, the Murwillumbah Imperial and another hotel at Rubyvale, near Emerald in north Queensland.

The revelations were made as part of a drink-driving case before Murwillumbah Local Court, where Power pleaded guilty to charges of high-range drink-driving and speeding on the Tweed Valley Way.

His solicitor told the court the global financial crisis had led to a 30 per cent reduction in gross sales at Power's Rubyvale and Murwillumbah hotels and he had been battling financially as well as working 14-hour days.
