REAL estate agents are struggling to sell an infamous Chinderah brothel, after it has been back on the market for more than eight months.

The Sanctum was the scene of owner Victor Elliot’s murder in May 2000.

The property, now being sold for $1.65 million following a $300,000 reduction, is on a 586sq m site on Morton Street.

DJ Stringer Coolangatta estate agent James Shugg said the market was proving difficult to sell in.

“If anyone knew how to run it (the brothel) they could make a lot of money,” he said.

“At the same time, it could also be knocked down and the land used to build an office or a showroom.”

Mr Shugg said there was no denying the dark history of the brothel.

“Some people will always have the history behind it playing on their mind,” he said.

The Sanctum has five bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms, extra bathrooms and toilets, a customer lounge and other rooms.

Mr Shugg said the brothel first went up for sale almost two years ago for six months before it was withdrawn from the market for almost a year. It reappeared again in February this year.

In September, Daniel Clayton Scott, 37, was jailed for 12 years for the manslaughter of Mr Elliot, who died outside the Sanctum after being repeatedly shot by two masked men. Scott was found guilty of arranging the fatal attack on Mr Elliot.
