A young Gold Coast man has been charged after he allegedly crashed a stolen SUV into a Tweed police car and fled before crashing into two more vehicles driven by officers.

The 21-year-old appeared on Monday on a spate of charges, and did not enter pleas, following the alleged offending in northern NSW on Saturday.

Tweed Byron Police officers were patrolling at Chinderah in the Tweed Shire about 3.45am on April 13 when a white Hyundai SUV allegedly driven by Muntelwit hit a cop car.

Soon after, police patrolling Marine Pde, Kingscliff sighted the Hyundai and allegedly tried to pull Muntelwit over.

Police allege he failed to stop the car and a pursuit began, but was terminated when Muntelwit’s Hyundai “collided into two police vehicles on Bottlebrush Dr, Pottsville”.

It’s alleged the Hyundai was stolen from a Tweed Heads address on Saturday morning.

Muntelwit was arrested and charged with one count each of police pursuit (drive dangerously), taking and driving a vehicle without consent of the owner, aggravated break-and-enter, hindering or resisting police and driving without a licence.

Muntelwit was refused police bail and Magistrate Kathy Crittenden again refused bail.

She adjourned the case to June 14.
