A Murwillumbah man accused of impersonating a returned soldier with fake uniforms and medals has admitted to some charges against him.

Romeo Le Thorn, 36, had his matter mentioned in Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday face 15 charges.

Le Thorn was not required to appear.

Police allege Le Thorn had committed a number of property offences in Suffolk Park and Banora Point in December 2021.

Police further allege they found Australian Defence Force uniforms and service medals in Le Thorn’s possession.

They allege Le Thorn became aggressive after police approached him at Stokers Siding on January 5 before officers used capsicum spray and arrested him.

Police seized a handgun and a large knife located in the car Le Thorn was travelling in.

Defence lawyer Philip Crick said there would be discussions with the prosecution to see if the strictly indictable charge of possessing more than three unregistered firearms – with one prohibited – would be dismissed.

No plea has been entered for this charge.

If dismissed the matter would not need to be heard in the District Court.

Mr Crick entered a not guilty plea to intimidating a police officer for Le Thorn.

Le Thorn pleaded guilty to resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, possess unauthorised firearm, larceny and disqualified driving.

He also faces two counts of stealing property in a house, falsely represent to be returned soldier, disqualified driving, resisting a police officer in execution of duty, two counts of possessing goods suspected stolen, possessing a knife in a public place and possessing or using a prohibited weapon without permit.

No pleas have been entered to these charges.

The matter will next be before the court on March 7.

Mr Crick said the matter could be finalised if the prosecution decided to drop particular charges.

Le Thorn did not apply for bail and remains in custody.
