Man tasered after police cop cuts from shattered car windows

Crews from multiple police districts have attended a property in the Tweed Shire where two officers sustained cuts during an alleged altercation with a 54-year-old man.

A man remained under police guard in hospital after being tasered during an incident in the state’s north.

Multiple police units were called to Upper Wilsons Creek Road, Upper Wilsons Creek, 18km east of Mullumbimby on Tuesday following reports of a concern for welfare.

A NSW police spokesman said officers arriving on site were approached by a man who allegedly threw objects through the windows of a police car causing cuts to the responding officers.

“Police attempted to negotiate with the man and a taser was subsequently deployed to effect the man’s arrest,” police said in a statement.

A 54-year-old man was treated by paramedics before being escorted to Tweed Valley Hospital where he remains under police guard.

Two officers were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for lacerations to their arms and face.

“Inquiries are ongoing by Tweed/Byron Police District,” the spokesman said.
