A dental assistant imitated a sex act on a breath testing device then damaged police property with her nipple piercing jewellery after she was taken to the watch-house.

Rebecca Jean Hills, 26, pleaded guilty in Tweed Heads Local Court on Wednesday to driving recklessly or furiously or speeding in a dangerous manner, refusing or failing to submit to a breath test, high range drink driving, destroying or damaging property and resisting or hindering police.

According to court papers, on May 29 about 8.40pm police were stopped at the intersection of Wharf and Florence Streets when they saw a white Mazda 2 do an illegal U-turn in front of them from the north lane to go back south.

They saw the car accelerate exponentially in a southbound direction along Wharf Street.

Police had to travel at 110km/h in a 60km/h zone, and eventually caught up to her at Kennedy Drive and Norman Street.

The Mazda braked harshly and stopped.

Police spoke to the driver, Hills, who started crying and becoming abusive towards police.

She showed her licence and was asked to do a breath test.

She was given seven attempts road side, but she would not blow into the device at all

On the final attempt simulated performing fellatio on the device.

She was placed under arrest and police found paraphernalia consistent with recent cocaine use in her car.

Once at the police station, Hills returned a reading of 0.165.

She became further aggressive, stripped herself, and banged her head on the dock door.

She removed a piece of metal from her shoe and scratched the dock door, then hid it in her mouth when police tried to take it off her.

When Hill was back in the dock, she removed her nipple piercings and tried to scratch the dock door.

She repeatedly banged her legs on the seat and head against the dock door.

Police called paramedics who had to sedate her before taking her to Tweed Heads Hospital.

Hills’ defence lawyer told the court she had been a dental assistant for nine years.

He told he court the Currumbin Waters woman hadn’t driven since the date of the incident and had completed the traffic offenders program.

He said Hills had a number of mental health conditions including borderline personality disorder and general anxiety disorder, which had deteriorated over the past two years, but had since undergone a mental health plan.

He asked the court to consider she had no criminal history and no similar traffic history.

“She’s embarrassed and remorseful, (she) feels shame towards herself and family,” he said.

Magistrate Geoff Dunlevy said the facts were very concerning.

“The facts do read very badly for you,” he said.

He said some offenders would have been met with a term of imprisonment for this sort of offending, however noted her good prospects of rehabilitation.

Hills was convicted and sentenced to a two year community corrections order with 100 hours community service, fined $300 and disqualified for the minimum interlock and disqualification periods.
