A professional golfer accused of assaulting a woman will contest the charge at a hearing date in 2022.

Damien Rhys Jordan, 41, had his matter mentioned in Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday.

He was not in court for the mention.

Police allege Mr Jordan, of Tweed Heads South, assaulted a woman between 5pm and 5.30pm on July 27, 2021, at Banora Point.

Defence lawyer Joe O’Neill entered a not guilty plea to a single charge of common assault on Mr Jordan’s behalf on Monday.

He said the defence was waiting on a statement from the prosecution in their evidence.

The matter was set down for hearing on July 26, 2022.

Mr Jordan’s wife Amber Jordan on Tuesday said her husband would be fighting the charges.

“We strongly deny the allegation,” she said.

Editor’s note:  The charge of common assault against a woman at Banora Point was later withdrawn and Mr Jordan pleaded guilty to one count of offensive behaviour in a public place.

After the finding of guilt, Magistrate Jeff Linden dismissed the offensive behaviour charge without conviction on December 13, 2022, commenting on Mr Jordan's exceptional character.

This article was previously amended to remove a reference to Mr Jordan being on bail.
