Orange woman Nikkia Kissell faces Tweed court after pulling knife on security guard when she was caught shoplifting

A woman has been arrested on warrants at Jack Evans Boat Harbour in the Tweed after pulling a knife on a security guard. Here’s how she fared in court.

A woman was arrested in the Tweed after stealing sunglasses from a Specsavers shop and pulling a knife on a security guard.

Nikkia Kissell, 36, faced Tweed Heads Local Court after she was picked up by patrolling police on outstanding warrants at Jack Evans Boat Harbour in Tweed Heads on January 9.

Facing court over video link on January 30, Kissell pleaded guilty to shoplifting, using an offensive weapon to commit an indictable offence, custody of a knife in a public place and larceny over the incident at Specsavers in Orange on May 3 2021. She has also pleaded guilty to breaching bail.

Kissell was in the Specsavers with a white bag slung over her forearm and a cheap pair of sunglasses in her hand when a staff member asked whether she needed help.

Kissell said she was happy browsing and the worker told her she needed to clean each pair of glasses she tried on, as per store policy.

The staff member informed the Orange woman that as per store policy she needed to clean each pair of glasses that she tried on.

Kissell tested several pairs before grabbing a set of Carla Zampati sunglasses worth $249 and placing them in the rear pocket of her pants, according to court documents.

Security confronted Kissell because she made no attempt to pay, while police were on the way to the store.

Kissell said she confused the cheap glasses with the costly shades, handed them to the guard and was told to return to the shop to wait for police.

She became aggressive and screamed at the guard.

“You f**king dog c--t, you wanna be a copper?” she said.

Kissell pulled pout the knife, looked at the guard and put the blade away.

The guard worried Kissell would attack him or workers or customers in the shop.

Police arrived soon after and asked Kissell why she was armed.

Kissell claimed that she didn’t threaten the guard and “wasn’t going to stab him”.

Court documents also state Kissell stole shoes at Mathers Shoes Orange valued at $300 on June 16 2021. She placed shoes in her handbag before walking off.

Magistrate Kathy Crittenden refused Kissell’s bail and said she would remain in custody.

Kissell’s case was adjourned to March 13 2023.
