Prosecutors have dropped charges against a Tweed woman, who had been accused of stabbing a man in the neck, leaving him fighting for life.
Kristine Mary Morgan, 67, was accused of wounding a person intending to cause grievous bodily harm on September 12 last year.
Emergency services including Tweed/Byron Police were called to Kirkwood Rd, near the Pacific Motorway (M1) at Tweed Heads South about 7.25am.
Police said they found the 55-year-old man suffering from a severe wound to his neck.
He was flown to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition for treatment.
Ms Morgan was arrested at the scene and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where she was charged.
Officers on scene were tight-lipped as they taped off the road and examined a crime scene.
Now, it has been confirmed the charge against Ms Morgan has been dumped.
The NSW Director of Public Prosecutions was asked about the charge being withdrawn and how that came to be.
But a spokesperson would only say the reasons were within the Prosecution Guidelines and were legally privileged. They declined to comment on the specific case.
NSW Police have confirmed Ms Morgan was not hit with further charges.
