Kingscliff boy, 16, arrested on 26 charges after spike in vehicle thefts in Tweed

Police have charged a teen with more than two dozen offences after police probed a spike in stolen vehicles in the region. Here’s what we know.

Tweed-Byron police have charged a 16-year-old boy with 26 offences after an investigation into a spike in stolen vehicles in the region.

Inquiries led detectives to a property at Kingscliff on Tuesday, where they allegedly found a vehicle stolen from Nerang in Queensland.

The teen was arrested and taken to Kingscliff Police Station.

It’s alleged a subsequent search of the property uncovered more stolen items.

Police also seized a phone, which officers allege revealed further offences.

The teenager has been accused of four counts of breaking and entering houses, eight counts of taking and driving conveyance without consent of the owner and five counts of goods suspected stolen in/on-premises.

He was also charged with three counts of entering a vehicle or boat without consent of owner/occupier, two counts of driving recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and one count each of possess prohibited drug, and dishonestly obtain property by deception.

The 16-year-old was granted strict conditional bail.

He was due to face Childrens Court on February 22.
