Police allege five men were involved in a street fight outside the Tweed Mall on the night restrictions lifted.

Five men allegedly involved in a street brawl near Twin Towns the day Covid restrictions were lifted in the Tweed have been mentioned in court.

Jeremy James Holten, 28, Beau Holten, 26, Craig Belgrove, 41, Bodhi Croft, 29, and Nickolas Bradley Turner, 28, have each been charged with affray.

Beau Holten and Mr Croft have pleaded not guilty and their matters will be heard at a later date. Jeremy James Holten and Mr Belgrove have not entered pleas.

Turner pleaded guilty and was sentenced in Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday.

According to court papers Turner, along with Jeremy Holten and Beau Holten, walked from a private residence along Wharf St towards Twin Towns when they ran into Mr Belgrove and Mr Croft outside the Tweed Mall on September 11.

Police allege a physical fight broke out with all persons actively engaged in the “street brawl” about 10.20pm.

It’s further alleged there were 10 people within the vicinity of the bus stop and traffic on the road.

According to court papers Turner was yelling abusive remarks and appeared moderately affected by alcohol.

He had swelling to his face and forehead and an abrasion to his elbow.

Defence lawyer Phil Mulherin said Turner agreed he was involved in the affray and was intoxicated at the time.

Mr Mulherin said his client, a car salesman, had tried to stop the fight after he was assaulted and was not the one who started it.

Turner was convicted and sentenced to an 18 month community corrections order.
