A stripper was caught High Range drink driving twice in one night, 80km apart, according to court papers.

Edwina Primrose Browning-Wager, 37, pleaded guilty in Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday to two counts of High Range drink driving and driving when visiting privileges were withdrawn.

According to court documents Browning-Wager came to police attention on May 1 at 12.10am when someone complained about a woman driving a Mercedes, speeding, slowing down and weaving all over the road on the Pacific Highway at Tweed Heads.

She was intercepted at Chinderah where police spoke to her because it was apparent she was affected by alcohol.

She failed to do a breath test several times before another officer arrived and required her to supply a breath sample.

He then submitted her to a breath test, she put her lips to the tube but did not blow.

She was eventually assisted into the police car before returning a reading of 0.167.

She told police she had six drinks between 2pm and 9pm; two fireballs and four vodka waters, at Surfers Paradise.

After release she drove another 80km south towards Ballina.

At 2.50am police noticed her car south of the Ross Lane overpass at Lennox Head, exiting towards Ballina.

Police activated a warning to pull to the side of the road, she put on her hazard lights and continued to drive along Tamarind Dr then Kerr St before stopping at an entry way to Ballina Central.

She submitted to a road side breath test and returned a reading of 0.158.

Defence lawyer Marcin Lazinski told the court Browning-Wager was a single mother living in Ballina who worked as an entertainer and waitress and was involved in her family’s holiday leasing business.

He told the court she had a number of mental illnesses and was not the best person to make an example of.

He said the offending should be treated as a continuing course of conduct as opposed to two separate offences and asked the court to consider the police chase in Ballina was slow moving at 40km per hour.

Mr Lazinski said Browning-Wager was an otherwise outstanding member of the community with only very minor previous offences.

He said the offending was “peculiar” and something that would not be repeated.

The prosecution asked the court to consider the significant amount of alcohol Browning-Wager had consumed for someone driving such long distances.

Browning-Wager was convicted and sentenced to a two year community corrections order with 100 hours community service, fined $950 and disqualified for the minimum period.
