A Holden-driving hoon who allegedly performed a dangerous burnout in the path of a pedestrian outside a bustling northern NSW pub has been slammed by police for his high-risk antics behind the wheel.
Tweed/Byron Highway Patrol said the 23-year-old driver was taken to task on the “dangers, stupidity and consequences” after the alleged idiotic stunt on Sunday outside the Imperial Hotel at Murwillumbah.
He was charged with aggravated burnout on February 4.
At about 10pm, police will allege the driver accelerate harshly in a Holden Commodore ute, causing both back tyres to lose traction on the road and violently swing to the right before the car smashed into a concrete garden bed outside the Murwillumbah St venue.
A hotel patron was forced to dive out of the way to avoid being hit by the car, police will allege.
The driver then allegedly continued to lose traction for about 100 metres on the wrong side of the road.
Officers saw smoke in the area and tyre marks on the road.
The man’s Queensland drivers licence has been suspended in NSW until determined in court and his ute was towed and confiscated for three months.
He will have to pay the towing and holding fees to have his ute released when the three month period is over, police say.
He is expected to appear in Murwillumbah Local Court. A court date has not been set.
NSW Police have reminded people to report dangerous driving behaviour.
