Groves' place to be redeveloped

GOLD Coast City Council has approved the redevelopment of former childcare entrepreneur Eddy Groves' residence at Currumbin Valley.

GOLD Coast City Council yesterday approved the redevelopment of former childcare entrepreneur Eddy Groves' residence at Currumbin Valley, with very tight noise restrictions to be enforced.

The wedding venue would include a caretaker residence, day spa and short-term accommodation on site. The application was lodged with the council more than a year ago.

It was stated in the application minimal external works were required, but that didn't stop the council from receiving more than 70 objections to the proposal.

Most opponents were concerned noise from the new development would disturb residents in the usually quiet neighbourhood. The applicant, Viryan Collins-Rubie, has accepted all the conditions.

The property at 672-708 Currumbin Creek Rd was once the home of ABC Learning Centre founder Eddy Groves.

RESTRICTIONS

Restrictions imposed on the wedding venue development at 672 - 708 Currumbin Creek Road, Currumbin Valley to reduce noise include;

• 1.8 metre high acoustic barrier fence.
• reduced hours of operation from 10am to 6pm Sunday to Thursday, and 10am to 9pm on Friday and Saturday.
• resurfacing driveways to stop type squeaking.
• the manager was required to take hourly measurement of decibel levels.
• guests were to be escorted to and from vehicles.
• limited to 90 guests at any one time.
• all windows and doors to the function room kept closed during a wedding.
• no amplified music outside the main wedding room.
