David Robert Blackbourne: Ex-NSW Police officer set to fight teen girl sex abuse allegations in Lismore District Court trial

A Queensland man who used to work as a NSW senior constable is charged with raping a 17-year-old girl in a station while on duty more than two decades ago. He’s set to fight allegations.

An ex-NSW Police senior constable charged with raping a 17-year-old girl in a station while on duty in and uniform more than two decades ago is due to fight allegations at trial.

Reedy Creek, Queensland man David Robert Blackbourne, 54, faced Judge Jonathan Priestley in Lismore District Court on Wednesday.

In November, Blackbourne pleaded not guilty to all charges – two counts of sexual intercourse without consent, two counts of assault with act of indecency and one count of misconduct as a holder of public office.

Professional Standards Command started investigating Blackbourne in June 2020.

Police allege a woman came forward claiming to have been sexually assaulted at Moama in the Riverina 26 years ago.

Officers arrested Blackbourne at Tweed Heads Police Station on March 21 last year.

Court documents state Blackbourne was 28 when he allegedly assaulted the girl in 1998.

As well as rape, Blackbourne is set to fight allegations he stuck his tongue in the teen’s mouth on two occasions.

He is accused of wearing a uniform in order to “use his position” to offend against the teen on at least one occasion, police state.

The trial has been rescheduled to start in the Lismore court on May 27.
