Emergency services respond to reports of severe burns in Banora Point

A rescue helicopter has been called to help a man who was burnt when refuelling a water blaster.

Paramedics were called to Banora Point about 10.45am Monday to help a man in his 40s.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said the man was being treated by paramedics for burns to his arms and legs with minor burns to his face.

A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said firefighters were confronted with a man suffering burns and smoke issuing from the rear of an enclosed trailer when crews arrived on Ashgrove Place.

“Firefighters quickly controlled the fire and provided emergency medical care to the injured worker until NSW Ambulance arrived,” the spokesman said.

“The worker had been refueling his water blaster in the back of the trailer when fuel spilled causing the fire.”

The incident had earlier been reported as a gas bottle explosion.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter landed on a field at Banora Point High School on Leisure Drive but did not collect the man.

He was taken by road to Gold Coast Hospital in a stable condition while the helicopter provided an escort.
