Traffic banked back more than 11km after M1 two-truck smash

Motorists have been left stranded and traffic banked back more than 11 kilometres after a two-truck smash on the M1 Pacific Highway.

Motorists have been left stranded and traffic banked back more than 11 kilometres after a two-truck smash on the M1 Pacific Highway.

Emergency services worked to free one of the drivers, believed to be in his mid-40s, who had become trapped in his cab following the collision at Jolls Bridge, near Mooney Mooney about 10am.

One truck was carrying scrap metal while the other was empty. The second driver was not injured.

A doctor was airlifted to the site and the injured driver was later transported by CareFlight to hospital.

Two of three northbound lanes of the M1 remain closed as authorities work to clean up debris caused by the crash.

Images posted on social media show frustrated motorists leaving their vehicles to exercise while the site is cleared.
